The Parent Teacher Association is a team of volunteers who focus on many important issues and events that involve our children and our school. We create a positive link between school and home, and advocate for all of our PLE students. If you are interested in volunteering, we would love to have you! Each year we plan and host many events that bring our families together and we raise funds to benefit our students and teachers. Events like the Fall Auction and Spring Fun Run help pay for vital programs and materials that are needed within the classroom. These funds also help keep the cost down for field trips and books, as well paying for playground equipment, school supplies and after-school activities.
Volunteering on the PTA is a great opportunity to meet other parents while making a difference in the lives of our children. This is an area where you can make a definitive impact on the quality of your child’s education and the community as whole. You are part of a tight knit family of volunteers dedicated to creating the best environment for our children to learn and grow.

OPEN POSITIONS for 2016-2017
Family Activities Chair (Board)
This position is primarily responsible for planning, promoting and executing any family events. If there is an event chair, the F.A. Chair would work closely with that person. If there is not an event chair, the F.A. Chair would put on the event. Events typically run by this position are: Ice Cream Social, Harvest Dance, Multi-Cultural Night and Family Movie Nights. This person would also work with the school office and Mahala in the scheduling and promoting of events. This person reports to the VP of Programs.
Time commitment: This is a year-long position but is busiest as each event approaches. Should also be able to attend some school/PTA events to host an table and promote upcoming events. Must be able to attend PTA Board and General Meetings.
Multi-Cultural Night Chair
This position plans, coordinates, promotes and executes a school community night in January or February. S/he would be responsible with coordinating the potluck, family display booths and any entertainment. Reports to Family Activities Board member and VP of Programs.
Time commitment: This is a one-time event that needs to start planning in late fall and gets busy in January or February. May need to attend PTA Board and General Meetings leading up to and just following the event.
Periodic On-site Volunteering
Hearing and Vision Screening — Assist the school nurse with screening students in the fall. Training provided the same day.
Picture Day — Escort classes to the photo location at their time. Help comb and “primp”. Could also include Picture make-up day.
Language Ambassadors — The PTA needs help reaching out to our ELL parent population. If you know another language please consider helping out.
Staff Appreciation — Show the teachers how much we value them. Set-up and clean-up, decorations or bring a dish to one of several teacher appreciation events. Actively assist during Staff Appreciation week, usually happens the first week of May.
Field Day — Assist PE teachers during field day. Help out for a couple of hours or all day in June at the end of the school year.
Library (Book Fair) — Help at the Fall and Spring Book Fairs and help library staff as needed.
Decorating – Assist with decorating tasks for various events. Posters, crafts, etc.
Eagle Eye Patrol - Get to know the students at PLE and come hang out at recess. Come once a week or once a month as an extra set of eyes on the playground. Help whenever your schedule permits!
Harvest Dance — Put on your dancing shoes, a cute costume (for Harvest Dance) and boogie it up! We need help with set-up, clean-up and organizing events at the dance.
Multi-Cultural Night – A fun family evening where families get to share their culture with other members of the Phantom Lake community. Help would be needed planning and promoting the evening as well as with set–up, clean-up and running the event.
Family Movie Nights — Help plan movie, refreshments for any/all movie nights. Promote the event, start the movie and run the popcorn machine.
Science Fair – A great opportunity to bring science fun to school. Help would be needed planning the evening, as well as with set–up, clean-up and running the event.
Talent Show — A fun evening of showcasing the talents of the students at Phantom Lake. This event needs a lot of prep time and dedicated individuals who will plan and promote the evening as well as all the rehearsals needed. The show will not happen without a volunteer chair for the 2016-2017 year!
Membership — Help our PTA increase membership. We are looking for parents who are enthusiastic and have some great ideas to bolster membership. You can also help by entering members in the system and double checking for accuracy.
Publicity — Help the PTA spread the word about our valuable contributions to the school and the community. Make posters to place in the schools. Take photos at PTA events. Put signs out and distribute flyers in teachers boxes.
Auction Item Procurement — Assist PTA VP of Fundraising with donation letter production and in-person solicitation of area businesses and organizations.
Volunteer Database – Track all the volunteers and contact them as needed for events that are coming up.
Reflections — Publicize program and collect submitted projects for judging. This is busiest from September to January. Training is available.
Yearbook — Assist in design and layout of yearbook, take pictures, help publicize and/or track sales and delivery of yearbooks.
Walk to School Day (Oct) – Plan, participate in or run activities that supports Walk to School Day on October 5.
Fall Auction – Assist in one of many ways with the planning, decorating, promotion or set-up/clean-up, etc. Help as a volunteer the night of the event such as setup, check in, etc
Spring Fun Run — Spring Fundraiser. Assist with any fundraising efforts in planning, decorating, promotion and/or execution. Or help on day of the event with lap tracking or manning the water station.
Box Tops 4 Education — Each BoxTop earns 10 cents for our school! Collect, trim, count and ship BoxTops twice a year. (Most of this can be done at home)
Parent volunteers who work in the classroom or office, help out with school events and/or attend field trips are required by Bellevue School District to fill out a Volunteer packet and Washington State background check found HERE. Complete entire packet first. Print out - Sign all three forms - Attach copy of a valid photo ID. Return entire packet to the Main Office.
